Catherine received her BA in Politics and Economics from UCD and her MBS from the Michael J. Smurfit School of Business, UCD. After graduation, she was Programme Manager for the national music development organisation Music Network.

She subsequently moved to RTÉ, where she was Regional Manager for the Music Division, with special responsibility for regional promotion and development for the RTÉ Symphony and Concert orchestra.. In November 2002, she was appointed  Manager of the Clinton Institute.

Catherine is a board member of  Classical Arts Ireland and the Irish US Alumni Organisation.
